Missouri—GAA Certification Plans for Small Farms

In late July 2014, in collaboration with the Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA) and the Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP), National Fish and Seafood, Inc., an importer and distributor of shrimp and other seafood, announced that it is launching a project to help small-scale shrimp farmers achieve GAA’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification.

With the support of GAA, National Fish and Seafood will pilot the first four groups of small shrimp farms in Viet Nam, Indonesia and India into the program.  The Sustainable Fisheries Partnership will document the improvements in practices being made by the farms.

Peter Redmond, BAP’s VP of Market Development, said: “We are very excited with this collaboration.  It is great to see the whole supply chain working together to get the job done and deliver meaningful change on the ground, while delivering more two-star BAP shrimp to the marketplace.”
