New Jersey—Urner Barry’s White Shrimp Price Index Increasing

The Urner Barry White Shrimp Index, updated for free on Tuesdays and Thursdays, is an “average” of wholesale, headless, shell-on, frozen shrimp prices per pound, calculated using market quotations that are weighted on import volume.  It provides a measure of general conditions in the market for white shrimp.  It is not a reflection of any single item, however, Urner Barry does track individual shrimp prices and provides information on them in its fee-based publications, which include market news and prices on seafood and a wide range of food commodities, like poultry, eggs and meat.

Shrimp News: From April 14 to October 13, 2015, I recorded Urner Barry’s White Shrimp Index price every Tuesday and Thursday.  During that period, the index price was down $0.44 a pound, but from mid-September to mid October, it has increased by $0.09 a pound and has been up for the last five readings!
