New Mexico—New Mexico Shrimp Company and Cottonseed in Shrimp Feed

Cottonseed has potential as an ingredient in shrimp feed.  Fish meal costs in the neighborhood of $2,500 a ton, says Tracey Carrillo, owner of New Mexico Shrimp Company, a small shrimp farm, while cottonseed costs $300 a ton.  Carrillo is also an assistant director and senior program manager for the New Mexico State University Agricultural Experiment Station.  In that capacity, he has more than 20 years experience in cotton, and is currently working on a Cotton Incorporated research project examining the potential of cottonseed in shrimp feed.
