New Mexico—Southwestern Seas’ Shrimp Farm


Southwestern Seas sells 40 to 50 pounds of shrimp each week at farmers’ markets in Santa Fe and Los Alamos and to select Santa Fe restaurants.  The company has a 7,000-square-foot facility, equipped with everything needed to replicate an ocean environment.  The owners want to expand their client base and eventually begin producing giant tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) and freshwater prawns (Macrobrachium rosenbergii).
