Shrimp Exports Way Up


In May 2014, Vietnam’s shrimp exports continued their sharp increase, especially to the United States.  According to Vietnam Customs, in May 2014, shrimp exports were valued at $345 million, up 41 percent over May 2013.  For the first five months of the year, exports were valued $1.4 billion, up 70.4 percent over the same period in 2013.   In the first five months of 2014, the USA imported $445 million worth of Vietnam’s shrimp, up 129 percent over 2013, representing 30.4 percent of Vietnam’s total shrimp exports.


According to Vietnam Customs, through May 2014, exports of white shrimp (Penaeus vannamei) to USA were up 212 percent over 2013.
